FITKids targets middle school students.

It is currently being piloted by C.W. Otto Middle School and Pleasant View Magnet School, both in Lansing.

Students have participated in a physical assessment day at the Michigan Athletic Club, designed to check their blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol, and general fitness.

Lessons on healthy lifestyle choices have been included in math, English, social sciences, science and physical education.

Teachers have gotten in the act, too, by participating in an eight-week wellness challenge.
