Matt Cross | Fitness industry since 2007B.S. Kinesiology, Michigan State University, CPT American Council on Exercise & CSC S National Strength and Conditioning Association Matt’s studies focused on fitness leadership. He has worked as a strength and conditioning coach with MSU’s men’s and women’s basketball, golf, football and hockey teams. Matt’s passion for exercise and fitness has carried over into helping his clients achieve their own personal goals from general fitness to rehabilitation and improving athletic performance.


Hobbies: Gardening, cooking healthy foods, freestyle martial arts, Olympic lifting.
Interesting Fact: I absolutely despise the taste of parsley and I am currently working on a second master’s degree.
Favorite type of music: Depends on the mood. I have a little bit of everything in my music library.
When I’m not working you will find me: I’m gardening, taking care of my house and yard, and spending time with friends and family.

Jen Hilker | Fitness industry since 2000B.A. Michigan State University, Pursuing M.S. Exercise Physiology, Michigan State University, CPTJen played club volleyball at Michigan State University, helping the team reach a national top 10 ranking. She has a passion for working with youth, helping them to improve bother their sport skills and conditioning levels. Jen’s energy and positive attitude combined with her varied experience shows that she is a natural to work with individuals of any age and fitness level.


Hobbies: Roller derby, running, biking. My hobbies have diminished somewhat since I've had a baby.
Interesting fact: We've had no TV for almost 3 years. Oh, and I'm married to Tom.
Favorite type of music: Julie Andrews’s songs and musicals that I can sing to my daughter.
When I'm not working you will me: Taking care of my daughter and obsessing over roller derby drills, training techniques, strategies, etc.
Worst habit: Eating potato chips in the car. The good kind, of course.


Tom Hilker | Fitness industry since 2007B.S. Kinesiology, Michigan State University, CPT American Council on Exercise, XPE® Master Trainer Tom is passionate about motivating each individual to improve overall quality of life through education in nutrition, goal setting and exercise. With a background in competitive soccer and running, he works with athletes and non-athletes of all ages and fitness levels while focusing on sports-specific training, running, hiking and golfing.


Hobbies: Just about anything that gets me outside.
Interesting Fact: I run out of gas on my motorcycle more than I'd like to admit.
Favorite Music: Classical
When I’m not working you will find me: With my wife and kid.
Worst Habit: I've been counting reps for enough years I have trouble NOT counting repetitious sounds/movements. When I go for a run I get to about 20 before I have to force myself to stop counting my footsteps.


Beth Homan | Fitness industry since 1999B.S. Physical Education & Exercise Science, Michigan State University, CPT, American Council on ExerciseBeth is a former professional and All-American triathlete, Olympic distance national champion and four-time competitor in the Hawaii IronMan World Championship. Beth enjoys working with individuals who strive to optimize good health through exercise and good nutritional habits. She has a passion for training multi-sport athletes for competitions and developing balance, strength and flexibility programs to help athletes avoid overuse injuries.


Hobbies: Spending time with family, running, cycling, swimming outdoors and watching good sporting events, especially basketball.
Interesting Fact: All three girls in our family (2 daughters and myself) have won a state championship in three entirely different sports.

Justin Johnson | Fitness industry since 2012B.A. Exercise Science, Olivet College, CPT American College of Sports MedicineJustin is a true student of exercise science. His main focus as a personal trainer is to provide pain-free, functional training using all of the latest knowledge in the field. 

His specialty is ensuring his trainees exercise proper body mechanics, allowing you to get the most out of every exercise without risking injury. He first fell in love with fitness when he personally experienced its physical and mental benefits. His background in exercise science, as well as being a former college wrestler, allows him to work with a wide variety of clients. Justin is passionate about working with clients that are new to fitness and motivated individuals ready to make a change.



Hobbies: Lifting weights, hunting, hiking, eating, and sleeping.

Jessica Michalak  | Fitness industry since 2013B.S. Kinesiology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, NASM Corrective Exercise SpecialistJessica is an energetic trainer who specializes in sport-specific training for youth and adolescents. Prior to joining the staff at the MAC, she ran her own softball training academy and was a personal trainer in Champaign, Illinois. 

Jessica earned her degree in Kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned First Team All-Big Ten Honors and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Honoree as a member of the softball team.  

During her career at Illinois, she had to recover from two major reconstructive surgeries. Through the rehabilitation process, Jessica found her passion in the weight room. Her experiences as an athlete and as a professional fuel her creative and unique workout programs that appeal to a variety of individuals.  Jessica’s experience with all ages makes her a valued addition to the training staff here at the MAC.


Hobbies: Cooking, Fishing and lots of outdoor activities
Interesting Fact: In college, my crutches got stuck between two automatic doors on a campus bus

Tracy Moreno | Fitness industry since 1986B.A. Exercise Physiology, University of Southern California, M.S. California State University, NCSA Personal trainer Tracy has been actively involved in the fitness industry as a college instructor, coach, gym owner, and a personal trainer. As a veteran competitor of several marathons, including New York and Boston, she is enthusiastic about running, but finds time to enjoy weight training, swimming, cycling and fishing.


Hobbies: Running, cycling, fishing, gardening.
Interesting Fact: I was the overall Women's Finisher in the Steamboat Springs Marathon in 1995 (Time: 3:05) and a 2:58 finisher at the Portland Marathon in 1996.
Favorite type of music: Classic alternative rock, classic rock, classic R&B, soothing spa-like music, and classical.
When I’m not working you will find me: I am my kids' biggest fan. You will find me "encouraging" them on the side lines during every game.

Keri Morrison | Fitness industry since 1995M.S. Kinesiology, Michigan State University, CPT National Academy of Sports Medicine, Internship Coordinator, MSU & LCC Adjunct Faculty MemberKeri has a passion for working with the 50+, post-rehabilitation, weight management and post-pregnancy populations. Keri specializes in proper posture, muscle imbalance, chronic pain and injuries through a combination of flexibility, trigger point therapy and weight training. Keri is an active mother who enjoys basketball, swimming, yoga and mountain biking in her free time.

Interesting Fact: My college basketball team placed 2nd in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament & my team was recently inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame.

Stephanie Orlowski | Fitness industry since 2002AFAA Personal Trainer, TRX Certified Instructor Along side personal training and aerobics, Stephanie is certified in yoga, cycling, Pilates, kickboxing and kettle bell. She also has advanced experience in triathlons, endurance racing and dynamic training. She started racing triathlons, duathlons and ½ marathons in 2008 and coaching in 2010. Stephanie has been passionate about her own health and fitness and is excited to pass on her knowledge and motivation to her clients. She is known for quality and efficiency and believes in making the most out of your workouts.


Hobbies: Triathlons, running, yoga, playing with my pets. Taking dog walks.
Interesting Fact: I didn't do sports in school, I was focused on academics and the violin.

When I’m not working you will find me: Training for triathlons and road races, volunteering at the Humane Society, going to the dog park, napping.

Ryan Patterson | Fitness industry since 2003M.S. Kinesiology, Michigan State University; B.A. Western Michigan University; CPTRyan has developed multiple weight loss and wellness programs, and specifically specializes in weight loss techniques. He has worked with more than 10,000 clients seeking weight loss over the past 5 years who have seen amazing results. Ryan has also seen more than 6,000 individual clients to date. Ryan has spent many hours working with senior citizens and teens, helping them reach their desired goals. He also specializes in circuit training and anaerobic training methods.


Hobbies: Exploring Michigan craft beer destinations, golfing, hiking, relaxing.
Interesting Fact: I lived across the street from Wrigley Field for two years.

Deb Popp | Fitness industry since 1979ACE Personal Trainer & American Fitness Professionals Association, Mat Science (Pilates) degree from the Aerobics & Fitness Association of AmericaDeb’s experience ranges from competitive gymnastics to body building. Her personal training background uses those talents and allows her to work with women and men to meet their goals using a variety of techniques. She also applies her personal training skills to her group classes, which include yoga, workout with weights, self-defense for women and others.


Hobbies: Dancing, cooking and travel.
Interesting Fact: I was once part of a halftime performance at a Lions football game for a fundraiser and won a trip to Mackinac Island.

Kelli Richardson | Fitness industry since 2000 CPT & CSN, American Council on Exercise Kelli has a passion for fitness and training and has earned Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Sports Nutritionist certifications. Kelli has lots of experience, including freelance health writer, journalist for Examiner, fitness and health blogger, a fitness and promotional model, diet clerk at Sparrow Hospital, radio personality on Harwell Fit Talk Radio, Figure Bodybuilder Competitor.

Kelli has three children and transformed her body each time with nutrition and fitness, continually guiding both men and women to do the same. She specializes in eating disorders, post-pregnancy, sports performance, and food intolerances.


Hobbies: Research, lifting, biking, playing cards/games, playing with my children.
Interesting Fact: High School Fun Facts: I was in a champion traveling puppeteer team, did volunteer clown work , and played clarinet for four years.

Russ opened his first private studio in 1993, and was quickly voted one of the top three trainers in Indianapolis. He retained this honor for 10 years in a row while also serving as an advisor for the Indianapolis Star’s Health & Fitness section and Indianapolis Monthly. His training methods incorporate all the latest techniques alongside traditional ones – making for the ultimate workout experience. Through his 23 years of experience, he has specialized in general fitness, cycling and post-cancer recovery.

Hobbies: Checking out all the craft beers in Michigan, cooking, golf and bow hunting.
Interesting Fact: That I was once a CFO, I have a minor in theology.
Favorite Music: Classic rock (Alice Cooper, Guns and Roses), Enigma and opera.
When not working you will find me: On my motorcycle exploring Michigan.
Worst Habit: Bacon blue burgers. I once spent an entire summer riding my motorcycle to different states to find the ultimate burger – The Waterfront Grill in Wisconsin is AMAZING!
