Basketball League

The Michigan Athletic Club (MAC) offers adult basketball leagues each fall and winter for Men. The leagues take place on Sundays, with late afternoon to early evening game times. League format includes a minimum of seven league games followed by an all-inclusive post-season tournament. Three certified officials are used each game. Updated league standings, game results, and leading scorers are posted weekly. The league’s leading scorers are posted mid-season as well as at the end of the regular season. Awards are provided to the league champions.

After finishing the regular season tied for first with a 6 – 1 record, Hagan’s Heroes earned a second-seed in the MAC post-season tournament due to their early-season loss to Pizza House on Sept 11th.

After advancing past Taps 25 by a score of 62-47 in the first round, Hagan’s Heroes then went on to defeat Northern Home Improvement 66 – 50 in the second round, setting up a showdown with co-league champ Pizza House for the 2016 Fall League Championship.  Pizza House advanced to the championship game by defeating the 76ers 94 – 63 in the first round and Leaderless by a score of 68 – 55 in the second round.

The championship game took place on Sunday, November 13th.   The game was neck in neck for most of the first half with Pizza House maintaining a slight lead most of the way as they took a 34 – 31 lead into halftime.  The second half was just as close as neither team could take control.  Pizza House missed a potential game winner shot with 2 seconds left in the game.  Hagan’s Heroes quickly called their last time out to set up a potential game-winning shot.  That they did as Jason Murphy hit an off-balance 3-point shot from deep in the corner as time  expired giving Hagan’s Heroes a thrilling 57 – 54 come from behind win to win to secure the 2016 Michigan Athletic Club Fall League Championship.  Jason Murphy tossed in a game-high 39 points for Hagan’s Heroes in the win while Shane Ross and Dre Callahan scored 12 points each for Pizza House in the loss.  The two teams enjoyed a post-game gathering at the Pizza House afterwards.

The Men’s League will take a short break over the holiday season and start back up again in mid-January.
