Michigan's Gift of Life Professional Service Award Sparrow's Lisa Harris, RN, was honored in 2005 by Michigan's Gift of Life Operations for her leadership in improving organ donation practices and achieving breakthrough results. Lisa received the Professional Service Award for spearheading Sparrow's efforts at facilitating organ donations. As a result, Sparrow's number of donors increased dramatically in the past two years, and now is among the best of all the hospitals in Michigan.

Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF)... The Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Program at Sparrow Health System is accredited by the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF).

Sparrow's Adult Outpatient Rehabilitation Department has earned the distinction of being mid-Michigan's first rehabilitation facility to be registered as ISO 9001:2000. A set of standards specific to rehabilitation services is used to assess an organization's ability to meet customer, regulatory and an organization's own requirements.

Sparrow received the Most Improved Award from the annual Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study that asks hospitals to report on how they use information technology to address five key areas: safety and quality, customer service, business processes, workforce, and public health and safety. The 25 organizations not appearing on the Most Wired list whose score improved the most from 2005 to 2006 received the Most Improved Award.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
The following entities of Sparrow Health System are JCAHO accredited:

• Sparrow Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services
• Sparrow Regional Medical Supply (in the areas of Clinical Respiratory, Nursing and Home Medical Equipment)

Level 1 Trauma... Sparrow's Trauma Center has been verified as a Level 1 Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons, one of only seven centers in the state to receive the highest recognition.

American College of Radiology (ACR)... Sparrow is the only mid-Michigan health system to earn accreditation through the ACR for bringing together area radiologists, perinatologists and vascular surgeons to provide state-of-the art ultrasound technology. Both the Sparrow Hospital and St. Lawrence campuses were recently accredited by ACR in general ultrsound, gynecological and obstetrical ultrasound, and vascular ultrasound services.

American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer... Sparrow Regional Cancer Center and Tumor Registry is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

American Osteopathic Association's (AOA) Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP)... Sparrow Hospital recently earned this accreditation and is one of a handful of Michigan hospitals that have received both JCAHO and AOA accreditation. Accreditation by HFAP demonstrates that a healthcare facility has met the standards set forth by that organization to provide high quality care and compliance with governmental regulations.

SAMHSA Accreditation Program... The Sparrow Regional Laboratory - Toxicology Testing Center (TTC) is accredited by the United States Department of Health and Human Services as a Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA/NIDA) testing facility, certified to perform federally mandated workplace drug testing.

CAP Accreditation Programs... The Sparrow Regional Laboratory - Toxicology Testing Center (TTC) is also accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) in the following categories:

• Laboratory Accreditation Program (CAP-LAP) to monitor all aspects of clinical laboratory testing
• Forensic Urine Drug Testing (CAP-FUDT) to monitor drug-free environments and perform workplace drug testing in the private sector

American Sleep Disorders Association... Sparrow's Sleep Center is accredited by the American Sleep Disorders Association.

Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories... Sparrow's Non-Invasive Peripheral Vascular Lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories.

Best in Class, #1 Among Michigan HMO's, and Best of Best... Physicians Health Plan (PHP) was recognized by J.D. Power & Associates, NCQA and Ultra Link as Best in Class, #1 among Michigan HMO's and Best of Best.

Top Athletic Club - Self Magazine... The Michigan Athletic Club (MAC) was recognized by Self Magazine as one of the top athletic clubs in the United States.
