Membership Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Michigan Athletic Club, a division of Sparrow Health System. The MAC is the only hospital-based health club in mid-Michigan and is rated year after year as the best health club in Lansing. Membership at the MAC is a daily invitation to live well. Whatever your age or fitness goals, you’ll find a comforting home for both body and spirit at the MAC. You also will find that every part of the MAC experience — from our world-class exercise facilities to our great youth programs and fabulous restaurant — is differentiated by our commitment to creativity and service.

With more than 276,000 square feet of space, including Michigan’s longest indoor track, 16 tennis courts, three full-court basketball courts, four swimming pools, and a 200-foot outdoor giant water slide, the MAC offers you more choices in sports activities, equipment, training programs and exercise classes than any club in Michigan.

You can take a walk around the track, use one of our many exercise machines, take a class from a Pilates or Yoga instructor, or you can just relax in one of our luxurious whirlpools, saunas or steam rooms.

What is the best way to learn about all of the services available at the MAC?

As a new member, you are invited to attend a monthly orientation to familiarize youself with the club and meet our staff. This orientation also is a great way for you to meet other new members, sample some complimentary hors d’oeuvres and get all of your questions answered. You will receive the orientation schedule when joining; please let the Membership Office know if you are unable to attend.

How do I check in at the MAC?

Upon joining, you will receive a MAC membership card, which you need to present each time you enter the club. If for some reason your card becomes lost or damaged, the Membership Office will issue you a new card. There is a $10 charge for replacing a membership card.

How can I check out fitness equipment?

Most equipment you need (bands, balls, mats, etc) is available within the MAC free of charge. Basketballs, volleyballs and wallyball equipment are available at the Service Desk by leaving your membership card. Tennis, squash and racquetball equipment are available for a nominal rental fee.

May I bring guests to the club?

The MAC welcomes guests at the club and wants to make sure that each guest experience is exceptional. Members can register their guest(s) and pay the guest fee at the Service Desk. When sponsoring a guest, the member must remain in the club during the entire visit. Each guest is limited to three visits within a three-month period. Guests interested in joining the MAC are encouraged to speak to an associate in our Membership Office, who will be happy to provide a complimentary tour and workout.
