What is Pilates? Invented by gymnast Joseph H. Pilates more than 80 years ago, the Pilates Method involves a series of exercises that place intense concentration on your abdominal muscles, which, along with your back muscles, form your core or powerhouse from which your body derives its strength and flexibility. Who should do Pilates? Pilates is for every body because core strength is important in a variety of applications. Pilates is used by athletes to improve strength and flexibility, it can even improve your golf swing. Pilates helps build long, lean muscles, creating a flat abdomen and toned body. Pilates trains the entire body, eliminating muscular imbalance, preventing injuries and alleviating chronic back pain. What are the benefits of Pilates?
Where do I start? It is recommended your first Pilates session be a private lesson. The MACs team of certified instructors will introduce you to the Pilates equipment, provide a physical assessment and design a personalized plan to achieve your fitness goals. After your private session you will be more comfortable with the principles and philosophy of Pilates. For more information on our instructors, click on "Meet our Pilates Instructors" link at right.
Contact the MAC Concierge to arrange for a session.
