Friday, July 12, 2013 - Sparrow Children’s Center kids treated to day of fun at Color Run and Common Ground

Taylor Tew, 9, of Mason, has been coming to Sparrow Children’s Center for treatment since she was six months old, but on Saturday, July 13, she’ll be treated to special seats to watch The Color Run finish line and a concert by Fifth Harmony, sponsored by Sparrow.

Lansing’s first-ever visit by The Color Run benefits local charities, including the Sparrow Children’s Center and Kelleigh’s Cause, formed by supporters of Kelleigh Gustafson, Sparrow’s Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Child of 2007.

“Taylor has cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder and we were told she would never walk or have emotion. She walks without any assistive device, talks and laughs, plays t-ball and performs ballet. As far as I’m concerned, everything she’s been able to do is because of Sparrow,” said mom Tammy.

“We’re at Sparrow twice a week, it’s our second home, so we’re thrilled to be able to come out, have fun and show our support and appreciation for everything they do.”

Capping off the run at 1 p.m. is a free Common Ground concert by all-girl band Fifth Harmony, which took third place in 2012 on the “X Factor” and is working with Simon Cowell and company to release its debut album this summer. No tickets are required for the event.

For more than a century, Sparrow has been a leader in caring for children. The first hospital in mid-Michigan to offer a dedicated children's unit, Sparrow today is home to the region's only full-service pediatric emergency department. As the region's Children's Miracle Network hospital, Sparrow is able to provide families the most advanced technology and treatment options in pediatric and neonatal care.
