Sparrow names Edwin Marinas, M.D., as Interim Medical Director of Sparrow Laboratories
Sparrow has named Edwin Marinas, M.D., as the Interim Medical Director of Sparrow Laboratories.
Dr. Marinas previously served as Associate Medical Director of Sparrow Regional Laboratories and will serve as Interim Medical Director of Sparrow Laboratories following the retirement of longtime Medical Director Ronald Horowitz, M.D.
"Dr. Marinas has served as a leader at Sparrow for years and will be an asset to Sparrow Laboratories during this time of transition," said Brian D. Schroeder, M.D., Sparrow’s Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. "Sparrow Laboratories will continue to provide our Patients exceptional care and service under Dr. Marinas’ guidance.”
Dr. Marinas is also the Medical Director of Sparrow Clinton Hospital Laboratory, Vice-Chairman of Sparrow’s Department of Pathology and Medical Director of Michigan State University’s Clinical Center Laboratory. He is a member of Sparrow’s Medical Staff Centralized Peer Review and Quality Committee, Cancer Committee and Blood and Blood Products Safety and Utilization Committee.
Dr. Marinas implemented Sparrow’s Surgical Conference, a daily gathering of pathologists discussing recent surgical cases through intradepartmental consultation and sharing of knowledge and experience about diagnostic problems. In addition, Dr. Marinas maintains the monitoring and evaluation programs of the C.A.P. focused on diagnostic accuracy of cytology and surgical specimens.
Dr. Marinas is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Ingham County Medical Society and Michigan State Medical Society.

This designation recognizes Sparrow Laboratories’ efforts to bring molecular diagnostic discoveries from the research laboratory to care for Patients.
