Konnie Sutton of Lansing, Fern Marlatt of Holt, and Marge Hall of Lansing

Three area residents have been honored by Sparrow Hospice Services for their outstanding volunteer service during 2013.

Konnie Sutton of Lansing, Fern Marlatt of Holt, and Marge Hall of Lansing gave selflessly of their time to aid hospice Patients and their families.

Sutton is the recipient of the 2013 Hospice House Volunteer of the Year Award for her extraordinary kindness and the grace she exhibits under pressure. A retired nurse, Sutton easily stepped into her role at Hospice House, a 21-bed facility on Sparrow's St. Lawrence campus, where she gets to spend more time one-on-one with Patients, as she has always wanted to do.

Marlatt has been honored with Sparrow's 2013 Home Hospice Volunteer of the Year Award for her conscientious dedication to caring for hospice Patients in their homes. In her nomination, Marlatt was praised for the comfort she gave to a Home Hospice Patient for more than nine months, providing support and a much-needed break for the family each week.

Hall received the Betty Geller Award Celebrating the Spirit of Hospice Care for her dedication since 2003 as a bereavement volunteer. In this role, she provides emotional support to family members who have lost a loved one. Hall is a leading force in the Vigil Companion Program, in which she provides companionship to hospice Patients at the very end of life.

Sparrow Hospice Services provides compassionate care to relieve physical, mental and spiritual pain. Our comprehensive approach to hospice offers in-home care, as well as the inpatient Hospice House. We also provide care to many nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout mid-Michigan.
