You are a whole person...
You are more than a diagnosis or a procedure! What happens to your body happens to your mind and your spirit, too. At Sparrow Health System we want to care for you in a way that reflects this. Alongside our goals for your physical health stand our goals for your spiritual and emotional well-being during what may be a stressful time in your life.

During your hospital stay, you may need help to tap those spiritual and personal resources necessary to maintain your sense of well-being, faith, and hope. Chaplains are available to minister to your spiritual and emotional needs and those of your family at this time.

The Chaplain's Role
Chaplains respect your dignity and privacy. We do not impose our beliefs or religious practices. We are caring listeners who have been trained to help with your special needs as a hospital patient and those of your family. We work with the health care team so that your spiritual needs, as well as your medical needs, will be addressed.

Your Clergy and Faith Community
When you are admitted to the hospital, you will be asked if you have a religious preference, if you are a member of a congregation, and if we have your permission to give the clergy of your congregation access to a list with your name on it. We ask because we know that, for some people, a community of faith is a great source of strength and support. We want to be able to help that community help you. If you have no particular religion or don't want your clergyperson to know you are here, just tell us. We will keep your presence here in confidence.

How to Request a Chaplain
During regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays) there is a chaplain available to respond to requests for a visit. At all other times, a chaplain is available in cases of emergency. Please ask your nurse to page a chaplain for you. If you would like a visit from clergy of a particular faith, or from your own pastor, priest, or rabbi, a chaplain will assist you during regular business hours.
