Clinton in St. Johns is a Joint Commission accredited critical access hospital with an active swing bed program and a certified Level IV Trauma Center. Our hospital offers modern emergency services and diagnostic imaging, surgical services, heart and cancer care, St. Johns Primary Care physician practice, a physical therapy and fitness center and a charitable foundation.
Our Hospital reaches out to the community with monthly food distribution, active support from the Clinton Auxiliary group, the Whyman Healthcare Scholarship program, an annual Community Health Fair and various health-related partnerships and sponsorships.
Expanded services, thanks to generous donations
UM Health-Sparrow Clinton has expanded healthcare services, thanks to the generous charitable support of our local community. Our most recent building project, a $5.7 million Emergency Services Department, was funded in part by $1.6 million in community donations combined with the Alice Jumper Estate gift to create $2.2 million in community philanthropic support.
This investment in the health of our community means every patient can expect to receive the very best in healthcare services delivered by expert physicians and highly skilled caregivers throughout Clinton.

Our award-winning critical access hospital earned Pathway to Excellence® designation in 2016, and was re-designated in 2019. This prestigious award from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) confirms quality initiatives are used to create a positive work environment where Nurses can flourish, and nationally identifies UM Health-Sparrow Clinton as one of the best hospitals in which to work.
St. Johns Primary Care was the first practice in the United States associated with a critical access hospital to earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Primary Care Medical Home (PCMH) Certification. The practice became the first to nationally recertify in 2018.

Cafeteria
Clinton Cafeteria is open seven days a week. Lunch is serviced 11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Dinner is served 5 - 6 p.m. Vending machines are loaded daily with fresh food items available around the clock.
Gift Shop
UM Health-Sparrow Clinton Gift Shop offers a variety of unique gift items and seasonal apparel. Staffed by dedicated hospital volunteers, our gift shop is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Healing Garden
Located off the Front Lobby, the healing garden provides a quiet space with arbors at either entry where you can sit on benches while you wait for friends or family receiving testing, or step away from the bedside of your loved one to gaze at the beautiful flowers in bloom.
Interpreter Services
To ensure patients receive medical information in their own language, UM Health-Sparrow offers free interpreter services via phone, video conference or in-person if possible.
Patient Rooms
Patients who stay in the hospital overnight are cared for in large, semi-private patient rooms with space to accommodate family members. All rooms have phones (to make local, long-distance or room-to-room calls) and TVs available for convenience and comfort.

UM Health-Sparrow Clinton offers clinical expertise in meeting the unique needs of our patients using infusion therapies as part of their medication treatment plan. The process of taking your medications by infusion therapy is not easy, and our licensed Infusion Nursing team is dedicated to helping you manage your condition as simply as possible.
UM Health-Sparrow Clinton’s cardiac rehabilitation service offers individualized programs to help patients with heart conditions regain and maintain stronger cardio/pulmonary function through education, exercise, and self-awareness. Pulmonary Services provide a continuum of care for patients with a variety of lung-related diseases and injuries. From birth to geriatric care, Pulmonary Services encompasses Diagnostics (sleep medicine, pulmonary function testing) and Therapeutics (respiratory therapy). Under each of these areas of specialization, all caregivers are licensed, credentialed individuals who have passed national board examinations in their area of clinical specialty. UM Health-Sparrow Clinton offers advanced radiographs and digital images, as well as nuclear medicine, CT scans, wide-bore MRI, 3D Mammography, ultrasound, and bone density imaging. Rehabilitation caregivers bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to patients through physical, occupational, speech, and language therapies. Certified hand therapists provide non-operative, preventative, and post-surgical rehabilitation for a variety of upper extremity disorders, from simple fingertip fractures to complex tendon and multiple traumas.
Accredited by the American Association of Sleep Medicine, the Clinton Sleep Center is a resource for patients who have sleep apnea or other sleep disorders. Transitional Care Services are a stop between hospital and home, where patients get the continued care they need while recovering from an illness, injury or surgery. UM Health-Sparrow Wound Care Services is an outpatient service offering patients access to our unique team of specialists. We offer a comprehensive approach for non-healing wounds such as diabetic food ulcers, compromised tissue flaps/grafts and bony or soft tissue wounds resulting from radiation treatment.
Visitor Information
At Clinton, our priority is supporting the health of our community by ensuring that every patient feels comfortable and safe. In response to COVID-19 as well as health recommendations from the state of Michigan, we have implemented new visitor guidelines and policies designed to give patients access to the support persons they need while minimizing the spread of COVID-19 and other sickness. Visitor hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
