A xanthine free diet is basically a caffeine free diet. Caffeine and caffeine-like compounds are
found in numerous items including coffee, tea, cocoa, cola, and even some non-cola
drinks such as Mountain Dew.
Xanthine (caffeine) has been thought to increase gastric acid secretion which may cause
problems for people with peptic ulcer disease. When this diet is ordered, a general diet will be
served with the elimination of coffee, tea, cola, and chocolate.
