Meal Times:
Your meals are served cafeteria-style in the Day Room.
Meal times are as follows:

Breakfast: 7:45 am - 8:30 am
Lunch: 11:45 am - 12:30 pm
Dinner: 4:45 pm - 5:30 pm

Unit Activities:
Unit activities are designed to help you develop skills in socialization, daily living, use of leisure time, and exploration of community resources. Groups and activities are a required part of treatment. Individuals who do not attend groups must remain in the lobby area and cannot utilize the time on the phone, with a walkman, or on craft/knitting projects. Napping in open areas is not permitted.

Personal Belongings:
You are encouraged to keep personal belongings and valuables to a minimum. Two or three changes of easily cared-for clothing, as well as pajamas and a robe, are suggested.

Borrowing or lending clothes and other belongings is not allowed. Please be responsible for your own belongings and, upon discharge, please be responsible for taking your belongings with you. (Belongings left by patients will be held for 30 days, and we will attempt to contact you if they are left behind).

Valuables:
At the time of admission, you are requested to send all valuables home with family or friends. If this is not possible, these items can be placed in the hospital vault. Such valuables include the following: money or checks in excess of $5, jewelry, important documents or papers, credit cards and keys.

Sparrow Health System is not responsible for missing personal property not deposited in the hospital vault. We ask that you keep a maximum of $5 on the unit for store purchases, phone calls, etc.

Medications:
Medications should be sent home with family if possible. If this is not possible, they will be stored in the hospital pharmacy. Your medications are returned to you upon discharge.

Safe Environment:
In order to provide a safe environment for you during your hospitalization, we must restrict items that are potentially harmful or dangerous, such as razors, hair dryers, plastic bags, scissors and glass items. These items are available from the nursing staff and may be used with supervision. Patients are not permitted in other patients' rooms.

Toiletry Articles:
Shampoo, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, lotion, and powder are available at the nurses station.

Linens, Bedding, Etc.:
You are asked to make your bed, pick up clothing and belongings, and change linens. Linens are available at all times. You have sufficient free time to take care of your personal laundry needs. A washer, dryer, and iron are available as you need them. Please ask a staff member or another patient for assistance if needed.

Food and Beverages:
Food and beverages are to be consumed in the Day Room only. Please help to keep public areas tidy by cleaning up after yourself. Food and beverages in other areas (e.g. patient rooms) can quickly spoil resulting in a health hazard. Food and beverages may not be stored in patient rooms.

Smoking:
Sparrow Health System is a "smoke free" facility. Patients and staff are restricted from smoking.

Phone Use:
Three phones are available on the open unit for patient use. There is also a phone available in the ICA for patient use. Patients are requested to make and receive calls between scheduled activities from 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Calls should be limited to 10 minutes as a courtesy to other community members. Your therapist can arrange long-distance calls only when necessary.
