One visit. One conference. One recommendation.
The Sparrow Cancer Center believes in making health care as simple and effective as possible. Through our multidisciplinary clinics, we offer coordinated state-of-the-science care to patients who have been diagnosed with all types of cancer.
Rather than making separate appointments with specialists from different practices, our patients see a team of clinicians under one roof and in one visit. Our clinicians – specialists who are highly regarded in their fields – sit down together to determine the most effective treatment plan. The patient leaves that day knowing how they will proceed in their fight against cancer.
Our multidisciplinary clinics reduce the time frame between diagnosis and treatment, and ensure that our patients are equipped with the best treatment plan possible.
Breast cancer clinic
The breast cancer clinic offers a multidisciplinary team approach to help women learn about breast cancer and to make informed decisions about what kind of treatment is best for them.
After the team of specialists has met with each patient, they meet with other members of the multidisciplinary team. During this conference, a radiologist reviews the woman's mammograms and a pathologist reviews the biopsy slides taken of her breast cancer. Using all the available facts, the team makes a recommendation for treatment. The recommendation is presented to the woman and her family before they leave the center.
We also have a certified breast care Nurse Navigator who serves as an educator and support person for all breast cancer patients and their families. This service insures that questions are answered and helps to relieve confusion, fears and anxiety. The Navigator also helps facilitate referrals to community resources and providers.
