The nature of this type of cancer requires a unique approach. Sparrow Regional Cancer Center has developed the most advanced care available in the region for lung and chest cancers. Our multidisciplinary approach not only reduces the time from diagnosis to treatment for our patients, but is also
a critical factor for increased quality of care. And at Sparrow, we place the patient at the center of all that we do, making it convenient for the patient to access all necessary tests and evaluations in one visit.
Multidisciplinary Team
Comprehensive patient evaluation and treatment planning from specialists in:
- Medical oncology
- Radiation oncology
- Pulmonology
- Interventional and diagnostic radiology
- Thoracic surgery
- Cytopathology
- Cytotechnology
Patients referred to our clinic experience:
- one visit
- one conference
- one recommendation
Patients leave with a comprehensive treatment plan for their care that is all-inclusive, not fragmented.
The Patients Come First
Cancer treatment can be confusing for the patients and families. So our goal is to make it simple. One call, that's all it takes.
Once an appointment is scheduled our team obtains the patient's chart and any required records.
A care coordinator contacts the patient prior to the conference and is accessible throughout the treatment process.
She clearly defines next steps for the patient and referring physician, including the time frame and schedule for tests, treatment and all other care.
If the patient has no diagnosis, our team will discuss with you the best way to collect the data necessary to make one. The
Coordinator sets up all the tests and consults and makes it easy for the patient to get through the system. A first-time diagnosis
is double read as part of quality assurance.
Clinical Trials
Prior to the Chest Clinic conference, clinical research nurses prepare data and review patient
profiles to determine whether patients are appropriate candidates for specific clinical trials. Clinical Trials often offer improved
pharmaceutical options or chemotherapy standards of care. All trials run through our clinic are Phase 2, where patients receive new promising
treatments and Phase 3 where new treatments are compared with accepted standard of care. All patients on clinical studies at Sparrow receive active treatments (as opposed to placebos).
The Chest Clinic Exceeds Expectations
Sparrow...diagnostics and physicians second to none in the area...the only health system in the region that can provide quality of care at this superior level.
Patients can complete their diagnosis and treatment consultation in one afternoon.
And it all happens in the same location, in the Chest Clinic in the Cancer Center at Sparrow Hospital.
