Sparrow established its first Workforce Diversity Plan in 1992. It was a progressive move for the time, and Sparrow remains a leader in promoting diversity and inclusion in a healthcare setting.
Sparrow builds diversity through recruitment, outreach and hiring, and these efforts are maintained through learning and development, rewards and recognition and a supportive work environment. Here you’ll have the opportunity to fully explore all facets of your career, in a place where you truly belong. Join us.
This is why you belong at Sparrow
We recognize and respect individual differences. The unique experience of individual associates benefits Sparrow and supports our mission to improve the health status of people throughout the region. The Sparrow model goes beyond diversity to inclusion: fostering an environment in which you belong and feel comfortable while maintaining the unique qualities that make you an individual.
We are committed to building a diverse workforce. Our patient population is diverse, so it benefits the communities we serve to have a diverse population of healthcare providers. Sparrow’s recruiting efforts reflect our interest in building a workforce that offers our patients more than professional skill. The qualities you bring also enhance the organization through such things as decision making, problem solving and innovation, as well as patient care.
We cultivate a supportive environment. Sparrow administrators, managers and supervisors actively work to create and maintain a culture of diversity and inclusion. Leadership assessment skills and diversity education are part of the ongoing steps and training we employ to assure diversity and inclusion. In addition, a range of initiatives—such as alternative work schedules, leave programs, Sparrow Personal Assistant program, childcare and employee assistance programs—offer ways to fit your personal needs into your work life.
Our culture of inclusion runs deep. All Sparrow associates, at every level, are responsible for creating an environment that is welcoming, comfortable and respectful to all individuals. Our Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council is made up of 25 individuals representing a cross-section of Sparrow, giving us a broad prospective on the needs of our associates and the communities we serve.
Sparrow recently adopted a three year plan for diversity and inclusion that focuses on five key areas: leadership, communication, retention, inclusion education, and representation. The plan has built-in measurement and accountability to insure the goals we’ve set are an on-going part of our overall mission of service.
