Employee Information Sessions
This short informational session which may be conducted annually and/or held in conjunction with one of the other topics will remind employees of
the services available through the EAP and will discuss the topic of confidentiality. Employees always have questions about policy and procedures as the current situation at home changes.
This relaxed format provides them with an opportunity to ask questions about the program and mental health problems, if appropriate. This also gives employees the opportunity to ask
questions about the EAP.
Supervisor and Union EAP Referral Training
The most difficult situation for the employee assistance program, supervisor, union representative and company to deal with is the employee whose personal
problems have become so important that it is showing up in the workplace. This workshop is designed to introduce the key players to the employee assistance program,
discuss job performance behavior, documentation and referrals to the EAP.
Balancing Work and Personal Life
This workshop provides ways to achieve work and personal pursuits while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Identifying limitations and the positive
usage of the word "no" will also be explored. In general, the underlying reasons that compel us to be "super" people will be identified in a light-hearted and non-threatening manner.
Do I have to get so angry?
This workshop describes the negative consequences of angry behavior and how to deal with anger in a productive manner. Feelings will be discussed in relationship to establishing healthy boundaries,
both physically and emotionally. Confronting anger other than our own and power plays will also be explored.
Communication and Relationships: There really is a better way
This workshop is designed to create a positive impact in relationships by helping to improve communication. It features basic information about communicating with others in a healthy manner, and it helps the participant to take
responsibility for problems that contributed to failed relationships at home and at work.
What have I done for fun lately?
This enjoyable workshop is appropriate for a brown bag lunch setting that takes a look at managing our spare time. The participants can identify excuses they use to limit their non-work hours. Laughing is healthy and this topic will have participants smiling by the end of the hours.
Stress Management

Positive and negative stressors will be discussed. Ways of managing stress and tips for identifying stressful situations will be the focus during the presentation. This is a refresher course for those who have had many other stress management workshops and hopefully will be a fun way to look at an every day issue.
Understanding Grief and Loss
This workshop discusses the feelings of loss associated with any significant changes in life. The grieving process, a situation all people at one time or another will experience will be the primary focus. This presentation will describe the steps in the grieving
process and explore the similarities between losing a loved one and other changes in life.
Navigating Change
This workshop discusses the inevitability of change, the different forms it comes in, and how to deal with it. Stress and the stages of grief will be discussed in relation to change. Communication as well as other positive inputs will be shown as helpful ways to
minimize the fears of change.
Enhancing Customer Relations
This workshop mainly consists of communication skills and how to improve them. The participant will share and
re-evaluate perceptions of him/herself, learn responsible assertiveness, and learn how to improve listening skills as well.
Problem solving techniques and the principles of positive relating will also be discussed.
Drugs in the workplace
This workshop's main purpose is to increase the participants' awareness of the effects of drug abuse. A comprehensive list of different types of
drugs will be described along with the signs, symptoms, and behavior traits that indicate drug abuse. The workshop also shows ways to confront a suspected drug abuser. Finally,
treatment and rehabilitation possibilities will be discussed as well as confidentiality.
Survival 101
This workshop gives an overview of communication styles and how relating to others can affect self-esteem. The Whole Person Model will be used to discuss what potentials make up human beings.
Problem ownership is a barrier to communication and will be discussed.
Coping with difficult people in the workplace
This workshop is a fun way to deal with an all too common, frustrating work situation, the difficult co-worker. Suggestions will be given as to how to learn "jerk" skills to survive in the work (and home)
environment.
Let's Communicate
This program discusses ways employees can communicate more effectively through listening productively and learning how to be assertive when speaking. Problem ownership and recognizing different behavioral styles will also be discussed.
Working with Angry People
The goal of this program is to help people learn how to recognize anger and deal with it in the workplace. Working in a hostile environment is also discussed.
Team Building in the Workplace
This program is designed to identify work stress, how to deal with it and how to increase cooperation amongst employees. This program can be tailored specifically to your company's needs and policies.
Beating the Holiday Blues
Holiday stress, it's causes and constructive ways to manage it including appropriate limit setting are looked at.
Sexual Harassment
This program can be tailored to your company's specific policies. It includes information about what sexual harassment is and what an individual can do about it. Behavioral styles and creating a positive work environment skills are included.
Traumatic Incident Stress Debriefing
This special workshop is to help the organization at times of traumatic
and often uncontrollable situations. Please call the CARES - EAP office for an assessment of the need for this workshop.
