Cardiac Rehabilitation is a program of monitored exercise and cardiac education. The
program is aimed at returrning a person who has had a heart problem to their fullest
physical potential, as well as teaching them what they need to know to cope with
necessary changes in lifestyle that could prevent further heart problems.
Your primary care physician's referral is necessary to be enrolled in the Cardiac
Rehabilitation Program. Contact your family physician to see if Cardiac Rehabilitation
is an option for you.

Our new state-of-the-art Outpatient Therapy Center features a patient-friendly seven-bed facility located inside
Carson City Hospital. Under the direction of Dr. UshaSree Chamarthy, the Center offers chemotherapy services,
infusion therapy, transfusion therapy, conscious sedation recovery, IV hydration therapy, antibiotic/steroid therapy,
doctor consult services and - for patient comfort - personal televisions in each therapy room. The Center is a
satellite of the award-winning Sparrow Regional Cancer Center.

Diabetes Education
|
|
Diabetes Education is offered at Carson City Hospital through the Diabetes Outpatient
Program of Montcalm County. Classes are offered to individuals 18 and over with Type 1
or 2 Diabetes. Classes are broken down as follows:
A - The 9-hour class is available in one-day or two-day sessions at various dates and times.
Individuals will receive:
- Class(es) of instruction with a nurse educator covering:
- Physical changes associated with diabetes
- Factors which influence the level of blood glucose
- Daily self-management
- Sick day care
- Signs and symptoms with treatment of hyperglycemia(high blood sugar) and hypoglycemia(low blood sugar)
- Self glucose monitoring
- Long term complications and risk factors
- Over the counter drugs
- Oral hypoglycemic agents
- Insulin
- Instruction with the dietician covering dietary guidelines such as meal planning,
eating out, label reading, sick day diets and exercise snacks. Includes an individualized meal plan.
B - One-to-one visits with nurse educator and dietician for those who
cannot attend a class. This session lasts about two hours and covers the same material
listed above.
C - One-to-one visits for gestational, juvenile and special needs
diabetes also available. A fee is charged for educational services. Many insurances
cover cost if ordered by physician. Grants are available for special needs. Family
members and significant others are also encouraged to attend the program - at no cost.

Emergency Room
|

The Level III Emergency Room is staffed and equipped to provide emergency care 24
hours a day, seven days a week. A physician is on site at all times. Emergency radio
communications are established with Montcalm County Ambulance and the EMS personnel
are ACLS certified. Helicopter and ground Mobile Intensive Care transfers to tertiary
facilities, are available when necessary. Our medical staff provides treatment for
minor cuts and abrasions, earaches, sore throat, fever, cough, colds, flu and many
other minor illnesses and procedures with charges that reflect the level of treatment.

Our newly renovated area is equipped with four intensive care beds and six step down coronary care beds. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) contains individual monitoring equipment, oxygen, compressed air and suction. An individual nurse call system, electrical outlets, cabinets and storage space provide easy access and safety for the patients. The Stepdown Unit allows patients to be monitored continuously under the direction of board certified specialists in Internal Medicine.
