The Pediatric Transport Service at Sparrow Regional Children’s Center offers a state-of-the-art mobile intensive care unit that transports seriously ill infants and children to Sparrow Hospital. Sparrow Regional Children’s Center has provided neonatal and pediatric critical care transportation services since 1982.

Our team consists of registered nurses who have experience in pediatric intensive care. All transport team nurses are trained in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Depending on the patient’s illness, a physician may accompany the nurse led team. The pediatric transport team also includes registered respiratory therapists who have experience in pediatric critical care. All of the team members are extensively trained in the discipline of pediatric transport medicine.

Referring physicians can call 517.364.4532 to arrange a pediatric transport. You initially will speak to a pediatric critical care registered nurse. They will gather some cursory information and connect you with the pediatric intensivist for a consultation.

During the initial telephone consult, information that will be helpful for us to expedite the pediatric transport includes:

  • Referring physician name
  • Contact number
  • Requesting facility/location of the patient
  • Patient name, DOB and weight
  • Hx and/or SSN
  • Admitting diagnosis
  • Pertinent lab procedures/results
