Pediatric Outpatient Surgery (POPS)
The POPS unit provides care for patients having outpatient surgery, outpatient procedures as well as preparing patients for surgery on the day of admission. Care is
provided for patients 17 years of age and younger, before and after surgery and procedures such as EGD, chemo, LP, bone marrow test and sedation for MRI and other
diagnostic procedures. A medical history and testing is obtained and instructions are given to patients (parent or guardian) pre-operatively. Patients being admitted
following surgery also receive pre-operative care on this unit.
Pediatric outpatient surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. The average length of stay is between three and seven
hours from the time of admission to discharge.

Pre-Surgical Telephone Interview
Three to four days prior to the patient's surgery, a telephone interview with a nurse is required to obtain medical history and other pertinent information.
Please have a list of all medications the patient is taking available for this interview. Your address, phone number and insurance information will
also be verified.
