Come join our dance academy for a fun-filled movement experience! We combine an art form with exercise to help one understand the true beauty of self-expression and nonverbal communication. The dance academy offers an extensive variety of dance classes to meet your interests. If you’ve wanted to dance but have been hesitant please come to our open house week and find the best class for you!

Winter Session 2019: January 14-March 23rd

Adult classesBallet 102 - Instructor: TBA
Introduction to Ballet.  Concentrate on barre work, ballet terms and explore beginning ballet combinations in the center while improving posture, muscle strength and flexibility. Handouts provided for this class.

Ballet 201 - Instructor - TBA
Study this fundamental dance form in a safe and nurturing environment.  Ballet will help enhance your grace, fluidity, flexibility, muscle and memory.  This is a great class for cross training in many sports also.  Ballet 101 and 102 strongly recommended.

Tap 301 - Instructor: Maria Haugen
For the experiences and intermediately level Adult tapper, this class focuses on quickening of footwork, progressions and will construct a routine.

Ballroom Dance ClassesBeginning West Coast Swing; Mondays, 7:15pm
Now one of the most popular forms of swing dance, the West Coast Swing has swept through the US.
Slow and elegant or fast and furious, this class will be sure to reach your dance expectations.

Intermediate West Coast Swing; Mondays, 8:15pm
This class expands on the material learned in level 101 and will work on the final basic dance elements along with an increase in speed and decrease in repetition. Participation requires successful completion of West Coast Swing 101 or instructor approval.

Bronze Foxtrot (American Smooth style); Tuesdays, 7:15pm
Foxtrot is smooth and sexy. One of the most versatile ballroom dances can be danced to songs such as Witchcraft (Sinatra), Just in Time (Darren), and The Best is Yet to Come (Bennett).

Beginning Hustle; Tuesdays, 8:15pm
Hustle is one of the most popular dances today and is today’s version of disco dancing. You won’t want to miss it. This class will use fun, upbeat and well known songs!

Beginning Salsa; Wednesdays, 7:15pm
An upbeat Latin dance that is easy to learn! It began in the 1970’s when dancers started mixing the Mambo and the Hustle. Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia, Cha-Cha and Mambo are all “sister” dances of Salsa.

Intermediate Salsa; Wednesdays, 8:15pm
Salsa 201 expands on material and content form the beginning salsa class. Instructor approval or completion of Salsa 101 is required for participation in class.

Beginning Texas Two Step; Thursdays, 7:15pm
The country/western two-step, often called the "Texas two-step" or simply the "two-step," is a country/western dance usually danced to country music in common time. ... As with other country/western dances, there are different versions of two step. This classes uses the quick, quick, slow, slow count.

Bronze Level Viennese Waltz - American Smooth style; Thursdays, 8:15pm
The Waltz is a dance performed to music with three beats to the bar. Currently, the Viennese Waltz is danced at a tempo of about 150-180 beats per minute, there is less rise and fall, as well as, less sway in the Viennese style of waltz since it moves so rapidly. Requires the completion of the Beginning American Style Waltz class or instructor approval.


Ballroom Dance Parties!

Here's your chance to meet and mingle with dance students from the MAC and around town!  Practice dance steps learned in class and put them to practical use.  With a ballroom instructor on hand you can dance the night away but also ask questions and receive coaching if you wish.  Soft drinks and cookies provided.

Your dancers, age 4- 8, is invited to journey under the sea, back to the ice age, blast off to outer space and more. Each week the dancers explore a new creative movement adventure!
