Emily was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1961 and became a registered nurse in 1982. She earned the certification in Diabetes Education in 1988. She served as coordinator/instructor of diabetes education programs at Blue Care Network for 12 years before joining the Sparrow Health System as a Diabetes Nurse Clinician in 1998.
