Very few personal items are needed during your stay. Hospital gowns and pajama bottoms are provided. However, you may wish to bring your own pajamas or gown, bathrobe, slippers, and personal toilet articles such as a razor, shaving cream, deodorant, cosmetics, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste. If you have forgotten any of these items, most are available in the Gift Shop which is located on the main floor.

You are urged to send all valuables home with relatives. We are not liable for the loss or damage of any money, credit cards, jewelry, glasses, dentures, documents, furs, leather coats or any other articles missing unless deposited with us for safekeeping. A safe is provided in the security department should you bring such items to the hospital. You can contact our Security Department at 517.364.2000.

Electrical equipment (electric razors, radios, curling irons, etc.) brought from home, must be checked by hospital personnel for safety. Please advise your nurse when these items are brought in.

Small amounts of cash ($5.00 or less) for newspapers and Gift Shop items may be kept in the bedside cabinet.

Some general guidelines for donating blood are as follows:

  • The donor must be a relative or friend whose blood type is compatible with yours . The lab will type blood for a small fee.
  • Donors must meet certain criteria:
    • Age 17-72
    • Weight 110 lbs. or more
    • Good health
    • No cold or flu symptoms for 7 days prior to scheduled donation
    • Donors on medication should call to verify that they will be able to donate

Care and Treatment:
During your hospital stay you will be cared for by a highly trained, qualified and compassionate staff. From dieticians, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, lab technicians, pharmacists, security officers, physicians, nurses, social workers and our pastoral care team - we are all here to work together toward your recovery.

Sparrow Health System is a teaching facility. We have many residents completing their medical training and they may become involved with your care under the direction of your attending physician. We are also affiliated with Michigan State University and Lansing Community College. Students in medicine, nursing, cardiopulmonary, radiology and surgical technicians receive specialized training at Sparrow Health System and may be involved with your care. These men and women work closely with and under the supervision of our staff.

Each patient care unit is managed by a Nursing Department manager who is responsible for the quality of your care. If you have any particular questions, concerns, or problems please do not hesitate to ask for your nurse manager or call a patient representative at 517.364.3935.
