The National SAFE KIDS Campaign was founded in 1987 to reduce unintentional injury. It works through a network of more than 300 state and local coalitions in all 50 states. It is devoted to teaching parents and caregivers how to keep kids safe. The Campaign has focused on the following risk areas: motor vehicle crashes, bicycle-related injuries, residential fires and scalded burns, pedestrian safety, falls, drowning, poisoning, choking, and unintentional firearms injuries.
Programs in our community are directed to raise awareness among adults, especially parents and caregivers that injuries are the leading health threat facing children today and that they are not random accidents but are preventable through behavioral environmental and legislative interventions. Events have included: Baby Day at Sparrow, Buckle Up Car Seat Checks and Safety Day Events.
If you are interested in supporting any of the excellent programs annually-sponsored or would be interested in becoming a member of the CASKC, please call Trauma Services at 517.364.2616.
