We view a graduate training program in Family Medicine as a transition from medical
school to professional practice. Accordingly, the Sparrow/MSU Family Medicine Residency Program
has been designed to closely simulate the private practice experience while safely maintaining
the framework of an educational system.
We feel that the residency is a post-graduate experience that must be flexible within its structure to allow
active self-determination by the resident.
Finally, our program is premised on the assumption that a resident's needs, both personal and professional, must be
addressed and nurtured in order for that individual to become a highly competent and effective physician.
