What should a semen specimen be like?
Semen specimen will be a viscous fluid approximately one teaspoon in volume and varying in color from white to yellow. It will
have an odor that is reminiscent of everything from bleach to almonds. Both appearance and odor can be affected by food, medications, and dietary supplements.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes, for two very important reasons. To perform an accurate semen analysis, the sample must be analyzed within one hour of being produced. Therefore, someone must be available to perform the analysis
when it is needed. Second, an appointment assures greater privacy and confidentiality for you.
Is abstinence required for a semen specimen?
2-5 days of sexual abstinence is required prior to submitting a semen specimen for accurate results to be obtained. Shorter abstinence periods lower the sperm number and quality, longer priods lower the number of motile (swimming) sperm.
Can I bring a semen specimen in without being referred by a physician?
No. A semen analysis is a medical test and requires, by law, a physician referral.
Can I produce a semen specimen at home and deliver it to you?
Yes, as long as you can produce and deliver it to the Center within one (1) hour.
I have a difficult work schedule. Can my partner deliver my specimen?
Yes, but they must have a picture ID and sign the submission form indicating they delivered the specimen to the center.
How long will it take for the results?
5-7 business days.
Will you explain the results to me?
No. You must contact your physician.
How long has your center been in operation?
Since 1987.
Will my health insurance cover fertility testing and procedures?
You will have to check with your employer or your insurance company to find out. Sparrow will bill your insurance company, but ultimately you will
be responsible if your insurance does not pay.

What is ICSI? Intracytoplasmic
Sperm Injection. It is a micromanipulation technique performed in the
embryology laboratory resulting in the direct placement of a sperm into an
oocyte (egg). It is a form of in vitro fertilization employed when tests
indicated sperm may not be able to fertilize an egg by any other means.
