Upgrading our Critical Care Units

Critical care units are very complex environments for staff, patients and their families. Making sure that we are providing the highest standard of care becomes even more important when you or a loved one are critically ill. This is a responsibility that Sparrow takes very seriously.

In our plans are expansions and upgrades of two critical care units, our 14-bed Intensive Care Unit and our 12-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. When complete, these new critical care units will offer more space, privacy and compassionate comfort to patients, nurses and families and greater efficiencies and ease for physicians and staff. The additional critical care capacity also will allow us to treat many more critically ill patients each year.

Sparrow’s critical care units were last expanded nearly 20 years ago. Community donations will: Upgrade and expand our critical care units to accommodate the latest technology. Upgrade information technology to provide quicker access to patient information including vital diagnostic tests. Expand and modernize family friendly waiting areas.

Individual nurse workstations will be positioned outside patient rooms to allow continuous and direct visualization and monitoring of patients. Each workstation will be equipped with the latest technology to ensure the highest level of quality care for those we are caring for in the ICUs.

New information technology advances will provide physicians and nurses with information in one location, close to the patient, for greater efficiency for the physician and faster, more compassionate care for the patient.
