Medical conditions that once required complicated surgery can now be treated with procedures that don’t even require an incision. Where physicians once used physical symptoms and simple X-rays to determine a diagnosis, new imaging capabilities allow them to see the body from the inside out. Advanced anesthesia techniques are much safer and patients wake up from surgery sooner, more alert and in less pain.

However, to remain in the mainstream of this fast-moving medical field, Sparrow must continue to make a significant investment in our heart disease treatment capabilities. Over the past 10 years, Sparrow’s volume of heart care has grown tremendously, performing more than 15,000 cardiac procedures annually. As mid-Michigan’s number-one killer, heart disease is responsible for more than 40 percent of all deaths. As mid-Michigan’s premier healthcare organization, Sparrow is committed to fighting heart disease with the best experts and the finest technology. Community donations will: Build a cardiovascular centers of excellence where heart patients will have everything related to their illness in one location. This means diagnostic technology, treatment and specialists from a variety of healthcare disciplines will all be in one location to provide heart patients with the finest care. Build a separate women’s heart center staffed with specialists who can address the unique needs of women heart patients. Ensure world-class heart care is convenient and available to the people of mid-Michigan.
