Our Goal
The Women Working Wonders committee is funding the purchase of a new MicroSelection HDR V2 for the Sparrow Regional Cancer Center, Radiation Oncology Department.
This new equipment will allow physicians to offer an alternate treatment to traditional external radiation for stage one breast cancer patients.
This alternate treatment, Brachytherapy, is the delivery of radiation treatment directly into the cavity where cancer was found. It provides a higher degree of accuracy with less healthy
tissue damage. The course of treatment with brachytherapy is twice a day for 5 days, a dramatic reduction from traditional external beam treatments, which are typically once a day for 5-7 weeks.
