Guests may register in the Service Excellence Office, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. abd 5 p.m.
Nights and weekends, arrangements are handled by Security 517.364.2000, also located on the main floor.
At registration, guests are issued a key to the front door and a key to their assigned bedroom.
Access for People with Disabilities:
The first floor of the Guest House in barrier free. There is a ramp and parking for people with disabilities available on site. Guests with disabilities should contact Service Excellence for more information about lodging
at the Guest House. If you have any special needs or concerns, please call Service Excellence.
Check-In
Please sign your name on the board located in the kitchen next to the number of your room so others can take messages for you.
Parking
Free parking is available in the Jerome Street Lot at the corner of Jerome and Holmes. Spaces have been reserved in designated spots in the southeast corner of the lot for guests. Parking
is available at the House ONLY for dropping off and picking up belongings, or for cars a disabled parking permit. Please contact the Security Department
364.2000 for any further parking information.
Telephone
Telephones are provided in the kitchen and in the upstairs hallway. Only local calls may be made from the Guest House phone. Long distance service is available if you have a long distance phone card. If calls come in for other families, please take a complete message and place
it on the board near the telephone in the kitchen.
Guest Rooms
Shared areas at the guest house are cleaned by housekeeping staff between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. each day.
During this time, guests may not use the washer or dryer. Housekeeping does not clean guest rooms while they are signed out to guests, but linens are provided for guests to change their beds once a week.
PLEASE put wet towels in the hamper in the first-floor hallway. Dry towels and extra blankets are in the hall closet upstairs.
Cooking Facilities:
The House has cooking facilities (stove and microwave), a refrigerator, dishes, and utensils. Please label food you bring with your name
and the date. Please wash your own dishes and help keep the kitchen area clean. If you take dishes to your room, remember to bring them back to the kitchen, rinse them off and place them in the dishwasher.
Rinse soda cans and bottles and leave on the kitchen counter for recycling.
Laundry Facilities:
Laundry facilities are available for our guest to use at no charge. You may wash personal laundry between 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon - 9:00 p.m. ONLY! The
machines and laundry supplies are kept in the downstairs closet hallway. You are responsible for your own personal laundry needs. Housekeeping launders all towels and linens.
Family Members:
Due to space restrictions, only two family members are allowed per room. Other family members and visitors MUST use the reception and lounge areas provided in the
hospital building. A main lobby is adjacent to the front desk on the first floor. NO OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS OR FRIENDS ARE ALLOWED TO STAY OR VISIT AT THE GUEST HOUSE UNLESS REGISTERED!
You will be asked to leave if rule is disregarded.
Conduct:
We appreciate that this is a very difficult time for our guests. We expect that every guest will be respectful of others'
needs for decency, privacy, and confidentiality. Please observe "quiet time" after 9:00 p.m.
Maintenance:
Maintenance is provided by the hospital. If problems arise with any of the appliances, electrical wiring, heating or plumbing, please contact Service Excellence at 364.3934 or Security at 364.2000 as soon as possible. Please do NOT
attempt to make any repairs yourself.
Theft or Lost Articles:
Sparrow Health System is not responsible for the loss or theft of your personal belongings. Please keep the door to your bedroom locked at all times, and
leave all valuables with the Security Department.
Guests are responsible for any damages or lost keys. If unexpected damage does occur, or if you see another guest abusing the facility, please contact
Security immediately. Security is available 24 hours a day by dialing 364.2000. A $5.00 fee is charged if keys are lost or not returned at time of discharge.
Safety:
No alcoholic beverages, smoking, firearms (weapons), controlled substances, or pets are allowed in the Guest House.
Smoking is allowed only on outside porches.
If the smoke alarm goes off, everyone must evacuate and meet in front of the Guest House.
In case of fire or an emergency, dial 911.
Spiritual Needs:
Any spiritual needs may be directed to Pastoral Care. you may reach chaplains' office at Ext. 42707 if in the hospital, or
364.2707 from the Guest House.
Walking To/From the Hospital After Dark:
Please call Security for an escort to and from the hospital AFTER dark. We want to provide optimum safety and security for each guest.
Check-Out:
At the time of discharge, please return the keys to either Service Excellence or Security. CHECK-OUT TIME IS 11:00 a.m. on the day your
family member is being discharged. This rule enables us to ask the housekeeping staff clean the room before 2:00 p.m. so that it will be ready for someone else that evening. Please erase your name from the board in
the kitchen, strip your beds and leave your bedroom door open when checking out.
Donations:
Envelopes are provided at the Guest House for donations to
the Sparrow Foundation to help cover some of the costs of operating and
improving the Guest House. Donations are greatly appreciated! You may mail your
donations or give them to Service Excellence or Security at the time of check-out.
Any violation of the rules will be addressed immediately by Security and Service Excellence.
Guests may be asked to leave if they fail to comply.
