Neurological Services

Sparrow Health System is proud to offer the Sparrow Neurological Centers of Excellence. Each center is comprised of interlocking specialists who have one goal in mind; to provide a complete continuum of care for patients with neurological disorders. These services are provided by a collaborative team of physicians, clinical practitioners, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians, social workers and nurse care managers. The team may also include outpatient and home care team members who are dedicated to continuing the healing process after discharge from an inpatient setting.

Facing Recovery from a Stroke
Strokes can affect people in many different ways. The damage caused to the brain depends on the area of the brain affected, the type of stroke, and the person's health condition before the stroke. Brain injury can affect a person's motor function, sensory organs, speech, ability to understand speech and communicate, memory, thought patterns and behavior. Weakness or loss of function on one side of the body is often a common deficit. The recovery time varies from person to person and to the degree of damage caused by the stroke.

Sparrow Home Care can be of assistance in the recovery process. The Sparrow Home Care team has highly trained nurses and therapists; physical, occupational and, speech therapists; medical social workers; dietitians; and home health aides. Each specialist/clinician works closely with physicians to individualize a patient's plan of care. The focus of each visit will assist the patient and caregiver to identify areas in need of improvement. We will work with the entire team to provide rehabilitation.

Choosing assistance from the Sparrow Home Care team may allow you to return home sooner, where you are in comfortable, familiar surroundings. It will also allow your family to be involved in the healing process.

Payment for Services

• Medicare Part A traditional covers at 100% with no co-pays or deductibles when regulatory criteria is met
• Medicaid covers 100% when the home is the most appropriate place to provide care
• HMO policies dictate coverage criteria, co-pays, and deductibles
• Blue Cross/Blue Shield and other private insurance policies dictate co-pays, deductibles and requirements for services

Access to Care

• All ages are accepted by Sparrow Home Care
• Patients have the right to choose their home care provider
• Initial assessments provided to ensure you know up front your financial obligations or coverage criteria
• Referrals are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
• Referrals are accepted when being discharged from any hospital, rehabilitation center, nursing home or directly from your physician office
