Job Shadow Program

Thank you for your interest in the Job Shadow Program at Sparrow Health System. The purpose of this experience is to provide exposure to individuals who have an interest in exploring health care careers.

This experience is open to high school students (age 15 or older) or college students and/or adults seeking a career change.

The job shadow itself is a one-time experience, lasting approximately 2 hours at the hospital where the participant will be able to ask questions, interact with staff, and see first hand how Sparrow Health System operates.

Prior to the job shadow experience, the job shadower must attend a mandatory hospital orientation (click here for available orientation dates here) and provide a negative TB skin test result. Sparrow Occupational Health can complete the TB skin test if necessary free of charge. Please click on the link for the TB skin test form.

To register for an orientation and job shadow experience, please complete an application. If you're under 18, please complete the application for minors and have a parent/guardian complete the consent form. The consent must either be brought to the orientation session or mailed or faxed to:

How to Apply

1. Complete the appropriate application:
   • Job Shadow Application for Minors - Please download and submit the parent/guardian consent form
   • Job Shadow Application for Adults
2. If you need to go to Sparrow Occupational Health Office to have your TB skin test completed, download and complete the TB skin test form.  You must bring this form to Occupational Health.  Once you have had your TB skin test read you will need to bring the results to the orientation session that you attend.
3. View Job Shadow orientation dates. The application process must be completed prior to attending an orientation. For times and locations, please call 517.364.5858.
4. Upon receipt of your application you will be contacted by Human Resources to be scheduled for an orientation session.  After you have attended the orientation session Human Resources will schedule your job shadow visit.
