MEDICAL / SURGICAL DEPARTMENTS

8-South - Medical Oncology / Medical Specialties
This is a 44-bed unit caring for oncology and hematology patients, hemodialysis and CAPD patients, geriatric patients and patients with chronic medical diagnosis such as diabetes, pancreatitis, electrolyte imbalances, congestive heart failure etc. This unit also has sixteen telemetry monitors, requiring all RNs to be proficient in identification of arrhythmias. Another requirement is the basic oncology course and the chemotherapy provider course. RNs on this unit function in a modified team setting. The RNs manage and coordinate the care of the patients and delegate and oversee appropriate tasks carried out by unlicensed personnel.

7 Neuman - Surgical Specialties Unit
This is a 30-bed telemetry unit, which cares for general surgery patients consisting of vascular, thoracic, GI/GU, & ENT surgeries. The cardiac overflow population may also be cared for on this unit. Specific medical patients based on diagnosis are admitted to the unit.

4 South - Orthopedics / Neurology Unit
This is a 44-bed unit for surgical and medical patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions. Specific patient care is provided for laminectomies, total hips and knees, major fractures as well as major trauma and CVA.


CRITICAL CARE

Neuro Step-down Unit
The 18-bed unit takes care of less critical neurologic patients, transfers from the NCIU, anterior cervical fusion surgeries or major back surgeries. Post critical care multiple trauma patients.

Cardiac Progressive Care Unit
This 43-bed unit cares for cardiac patients requiring an intermediate level of care. Patient population includes, pre/post cardiac cath and intervention, pre/post open heart, arrhythmia, arterial lines, and some vasoactive drips.

Medical Intermediate Care
This 35-bed unit cares for patients with respiratory illnesses (such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, respiratory failure); medical illnesses (such as diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis); cardiac illnesses (such as CHF, PE, DVT's); or stable patients in need for drip medications, or stable patients in need of ventilatory support.


WOMEN'S SERVICES

Women's Pavilion
This unit cares for 35 GYN medical / surgical patients. The department is designed to focus on the unique care of women. Types of surgeries common to this population include: hysterectomies, bladder repairs, mastectomies, and breast reductions. Other typical patient requirements would include radiation therapies and special isolations.
