Who can apply for the $5,000 Sparrow Health System Nurse Scholarship?
Any Nursing student in any accredited Nursing Program may apply if they are in their last year of the program or the semester before their
last year. The program may be either a four or two year degree program.
What are the requirements?
Each applicant must:
- have a GPA of 3.0 (B) or higher going into their final year of education
- maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 during their final year of education
How much money is going to each student?
Each student chosen for a scholarship will be eligible for a total of $5,000 for their final year of school.
How do I apply?
- Complete an online application. From the Employment Opportunities page,
select Public Job Opportunities and select Registered Nursing Student/New Grad from the Categories list and click the search button.
You will see the Nurse Scholarship position posted.
- Submit two Reference Request form by clinical instructors
and must be mailed directly from the clinical instructor to the address below.

What happens next?
If you meet all the qualifications, you will be invited to interview with our Nurse Recruiters. You will be
notified by letter soon after your interview about the decision.
If I am selected, what is my obligation to Sparrow Health System?
You will be required to sign a letter of commitment for two years of full-time employment as a Nurse within the health system, following graduation from Nursing school. During your final
semester of nursing school you will need to begin applying and interviewing for nursing positions
with Sparrow Health System. Sparrow Health System will employee you as a Nurse Intern and pay you a RN New Graduate pay rate of at least $23.15/hour. This rate will go up each year. We cannot
guarantee you your first choice of positions but we do guarantee you a full-time RN position.
How do I actually get my scholarship money?
You will be required to sign a letter of commitment for two years of full-time employment as a Nurse within the health system, following graduation from
Nursing school. Once we have received this signed letter of commitment you should receive your check for $5,000 within 20 business days.
Are there any stipulations?
If you fail to complete your Nursing Program, you will be ineligible for hire as an RN and will be
required to return immediately, all scholarship funds paid to date, to the Sparrow Health System. Also, once you are employed by Sparrow
and you are terminated for any reason or you fail to complete your two year employment commitment, you will be required to repay all
scholarship funds on a pro rated basis (based on length of employment).
