Sparrow joins a national network of laboratories working together to develop advanced molecular testing that can literally change the way diseases are discovered and treated.

Sparrow’s Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory offers physicians and patients the most advanced molecular diagnostics technologies such as Roche Diagnostics' patented Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), TaqMan, LightCycler, SmartCycler and Transcription Mediated Amplification (TMA).

PCR is a Nobel Prize-winning technology recognized as one of the most important scientific developments of our generation. PCR allows scientists to copy a single segment of DNA billions of times, making it possible to take a specimen weighing only one trillionth of a gram and generate a test sample sufficient to perform a detailed analysis of a specific genetic question.

Molecular laboratory technology can more accurately diagnose specific viral and bacterial pathogens, such as HIV or hepatitis, determine their amount in the body, and assist physicians in prescribing more effective treatments. New technologies can also determine how aggressive a breast cancer tumor is likely to be, or screen for human papillomavirus, the causative agent for virtually all cervical cancer.
