Dave Flannery loves to play golf. This summer, at a local golf outing, his arm started tingling. Soon he lost all movement in one leg, and his vision started getting blurry. But Dave wasn't worried. He thought "give me a minute and let it go away."
Dave's golf partner didn't like that idea. He rushed Dave to the clubhouse, calling 911 on the way.
An ambulance brought Dave to Sparrow's Emergency Department where he was diagnosed with a stroke.
Because Dave's golf partner recognized the signs of stroke and called 911 immediately, stroke neurologist Dr. Arshad Majid
was able to administer blood-thinning drugs used to treat some types of strokes. Getting treatment quickly can reduce or even prevent significant brain damage.
Within a month, Dave experienced a near complete recovery. He is back on the golf course and changing his lifestyle to prevent future strokes.
