- Stroke or Brain Attack is the third leading cause of death, following heart disease and cancer.
- Stroke is the leading cause of severe, long-term disability.
- Someone in the United States has a new or recurrent stroke every 53 seconds.
- Every year about 600,000 Americans will have a stroke.
- A person dies of stroke every 3.3 minutes and more than 60 percent of these stroke victims are women.
- There are approximately 4.5 million stroke survivors today.
