The American College of Surgeons has certified Sparrow Hospital as a Level I Trauma Center. This means that we have 24 hour coverage, 7 days a week by our trauma surgeons and trauma team members with neurosurgeons, orthopedists and pediatric specialists available.
The trauma team starts with the paramedics and EMT's at the scene. An emergency physician, nurse(s) and technician, meets them in the Emergency Department. The trauma surgeon is present with representatives from lab, X-ray, respiratory, surgery and pastoral care.
One of the responsibilities of a Level I Trauma Center is community education.
Sparrow Health System is one of the sponsors of Capital Area SAFE KIDS Coalition (CASKC),
an organization dedicated to reducing unintentional injury to children in the Greater Lansing Area by implementing programs and policies that are based on the needs of our community.
