Volunteer of the Month for July 2018

The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and the Sparrow Volunteer Services Department have named Sandy Klusack of East Lansing the July Volunteer of the Month. Klusack has been volunteering in the TLC Oncology group in the cancer center for over 10 years. She started in the Sparrow Gift Shop where a friend told her they needed more volunteers. She says she really enjoys helping people and talking with the patients and is said to always have a great personality and is very good talking with the patients and caregivers. She also makes coffee and cookies for the lounge, gets along well with staff and other volunteers, and is always cheerful and dependable.

Kristin O'Connor receives DAISY Award

Kristin had an elderly gentleman as a patient that was not expecting to be admitted, and definitely not expecting to be at the hospital for more than one day.  

Volunteer of the Month for June 2018

The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and the Sparrow Volunteer Services Department have named Frieda Motcheck of Lansing, as the June Volunteer of the Month. She has been volunteering for Sparrow since her retirement in 1980 – 38 years! She said she always wanted to be a nurse, so volunteering in the Sparrow pre-Surgical Lounge is a pleasure for her. She says it is like a second home. She also serves at the Outpatient Surgical Lounge on the St. Lawrence campus.

Sparrow Caregivers receive special training in infant massage

Sparrow Caregivers have received special certification in neonatal touch and massage, benefiting babies with positive touching and helping families bond with their infants.
