Shawn Smith, a patient safety sitter at E.W. Sparrow Hospital, goes above and beyond to show empathy and compassion to patients who may be at risk of harming themselves or others due to medical conditions or behavioral issues.
“I enjoy trying to make a difference while I’m here,” Shawn said. “I get to encourage, strengthen, and be there for our patients. It’s a chance to help people and I look forward to it.”
Shawn is also a full-time pastor in DeWitt and a foster parent. He recently gave a young foster child and patient his own portable charger to an insulin pump so that she wouldn’t go without. These are just some of the reasons why Shawn is this month’s Caregiver Spotlight.
