Positive Outlook Propels Lansing Woman through Heart Failure

Laytoya Williams, 39, of Lansing, was diagnosed with heart failure in 2015 at just 31-years-old. She nearly died from the disease in 2017 and was given an artificial pump to help circulate blood through her body as she waited for a new heart. After years of waiting, Williams finally got the news she desperately needed. Just nine days after being placed on the transplant list, she received a new heart at University Hospital in Ann Arbor in July 2023. She now credits University of Michigan Health for saving her life and Sparrow’s highly skilled cardiac rehabilitation team for giving her the skills and motivation needed to maintain a healthy heart while staying close to home.
