Sparrow Hospital has earned the nation's most prestigious honor for nursing achievement and excellence -- designation as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Considered the "gold standard" for nursing care in hospitals, Magnet status is held by only about five percent of America's hospitals.
"This is a tremendous honor for Sparrow nurses," said Elizabeth Henry, RN, MN, senior vice president of patient services and chief nursing officer. "This is a national verification of the excellence of our nurses, something we are proud of and have always known."
Magnet designation was awarded after a rigorous process that began in 2005 and included multiple stages of review and an on-site appraisal. The Magnet Commission voted unanimously to award Magnet designation to Sparrow.
"Magnet designation is a genuine mark of excellence for our nursing program and our entire organization," said Dennis A. Swan, Sparrow President and CEO. "We thank the whole Sparrow family for their dedication to clinical and service excellence for every patient, every time."
