The Medical Oncology Unit primarily cares for oncology and hematology patients. We also care for geriatric patients and patients with chronic
medical diagnoses such as diabetes, pancreatitis, electrolyte imbalances, congestive heart failure, and more.
This unit also has telemetry monitors, requiring all RNs to be proficient in identification of arrhythmias.
Another requirement is the basic oncology course and the chemotherapy provider course. RNs on this unit function in a modified team setting.
The RNs manage and coordinate the care of the patients and delegate and oversee appropriate tasks carried out by ancillary personnel.
