Unit Based Council Description
The nurses are committed to partner with others to promote, maintain and/or enhance optimal
health/quality of life for the people we serve. An open exchange of information between patient and health care provider will help us to provide optimum care. Our goal is to provide a compassionate, friendly and caring
environment.
Our Unit Based Council consists of a Chair, Co-Chair, treasurer, and secretary. All staff members are involved and encouraged to participate. We have recently created an “orientation subcommittee” to look at our orientation education tools and process by which we bring new hires onto the unit- we are looking to better prepare and retain our new staff while providing our preceptors with clear guidelines and the tools to facilitate the process. We’ve also created a celebration committee in which we celebrate all our successes on the unit. Staff recognizes each other for jobs well done, and going above and beyond by posting the information on a bulletin board in the unit. We will begin each meeting with a celebration party recognizing all the staff recognitions from our board, all staff birthdays and hire (anniversary) dates along with welcoming new hires prior to the business session of the meeting. We’ve created a mission statement “ to provide loving care to our patients and our peers”. We are writing a welcome letter to give to all patients on arrival in our unit and developing a staff code of conduct.
