Professional Growth & Nursing Education
Nursing Education
The Department of Nursing Education is dedicated to creating innovative educational opportunities to advance professional development.
Seven Clinical Nurse Specialists and ten Nurse Educators with specialties in medical/surgical, critical care, obstetrics, pediatrics, surgical, and emergency nursing provide
a variety of evidence based educational opportunities.
Orientation
Sparrow Health System provides a comprehensive competency-based nursing orientation. All new nursing associates attend a general
nursing orientation.
Department specific orientation is individualized based on the orientee's experience and may include interactive classroom instruction, on-line classes, and self-study modules.
All orientee's spend clinical time with a skilled nurse preceptor.
In-Service Education
Education is offered to assist nurses to adapt to the constantly changing healthcare environment. Instruction in high-risk practices, equipment utilization,
and clinical skills keeps patients safe by keeping nurses' skills current.
Professional Development
Associates can take advantage of an array of continuing education opportunities. Many of the education programs offer contact hours that are available through Sparrow's
approved provider status granted by the Wisconsin Nurses Association.
Examples of Professional Development Opportunities:
- Monthly Nurse Enrichment Day - Monthly education event for Nursing Professionals where a variety of current nursing issues are presented
- Neuroscience Day
- Charge Nurse Workshop
- Preceptor Workshops
- Critical Care and Medical/Surgical Classes
- ECG Classes
- AWHONN Fetal Monitoring
Continuing Education
