Joint Replacement Center
Sparrow Orthopedics in Lansing, Michigan provides a unique patient education and rehabilitation model within its Joint Replacement Center.
The patient experience begins pre-operatively as patients attend total joint replacement class in the month prior to surgery.
At that time they are introduced to members of our team including orthopedic nurses, physical and occupational therapists along
with case managers (discharge planners). These are the same team members who will be working with patients immediately after surgery.
as part of this class. We find that this helps to ease patients' anxieties toward the surgical and rehabilitative experience.

Patients learn about their surgical procedures, and are provided with details of their post-operative care and daily functional activity expectations
Patients are encouraged to choose a "coach", generally a family member or friend who will be involved with their rehabilitation
both in the hospital and when they return home. Once on the orthopedic floor patients participate in intense daily
therapy and receive encouragement and support from each other, their coaches and the entire orthopedic team. We find that
this approach enhances the patient care experience, improves patient satisfaction and dramatically shortens recovery time.
