the medical team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses can receive information and ask questions regarding their pain conditions. Patients who
meet with the pain psychologist receive information regarding the impact that their pain conditions have on their lives. Educational topics usually discussed
by the psychologist include:
- the difference between acute vs. chronic pain
- pain physiology
- sleep disruption & sleep improvement
- memory changes due to the pain
- depression
- stress
- re-defining identity to reclaim life back from the pain condition
Patients who work with the physical therapists and occupational therapists often discuss proper body mechanics for doing activities of daily living and a home exercise programs.
