Individual Pain Psychology Sessions
The pain psychologist works with patients one-on-one to teach skills to improve control over pain and ways to decrease the impact of
the pain. Chronic pain may cause an increase in irritability, depression, anxiety, and hopelessness. This often leads to decreased ability to
tolerate pain and affects personal relationships and lifestyle. Individual psychotherapy can address these issues and help patients develop positive
pain coping strategies. Also, pain can lead to increased muscle tension, which in turn increases pain, spasms, fatigue, and sleep disturbance.
The pain psychologist can teach relaxation techniques and sleep improvement tools. Biofeedback training is used to determine a patient's
ability to decrease muscle tension in painful areas.
