A message from Dr. John Wycoff, Sparrow's Chief of Medical Staff
Patient Safety - General Safety
We want to thank you for choosing Sparrow for your health care. We plan to take very good care of you while you are with us.
HealthCare becomes more complex every day. The good news is that todays medical care can produce great stories of early diagnosis and cure.
Unfortunately, complexity can also increase the chances for a mistake to happen. Think of it this way: If you are driving to a friends house that is just up the road, it will be easy to find. If the trip to your friends house includes turning right, then left, then right onto many roads through many stop signs and detours, the chance for making a mistake before you reach his house increases. Complexity can increase the chance for error.
At Sparrow, our entire team of doctors and nurses are working together to make sure your care is safe and provided with a loving hand. We want to make sure that no mistakes happen while you receive our care. Patient Safety is our top priority.
We need your help. Please become an active partner in your safe care. Heres how: ask questions, and speak up if you see a problem. Know about the test or treatment you are about to receive and make sure your get the results of your tests. Keep a list of medications you take and bring the list with you to the hospital.
If you are having surgery or a procedure make sure you know what will happen. Ask about what you need to do before your surgery or procedure. Know what will be done during the procedure. And, know what to expect after.
Sparrow is your health care system. Be an active partner. You make us better doctors and nurses when you help us help you.
From the entire Medical Staff, I wish you good health."
