POPS provides care for patients age 17 and younger who are:
- having outpatient surgery
- having an outpatient services such as diagnostic procedures and chemotherapy
- being admitted following surgery
Pediatric outpatient surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. The average length of stay is 3-7 hours from the time of admission to discharge.
Sparrow's Child Life specialists conduct a free pediatric surgery orientation for children age three and younger and their parents, to familiarize them with the hospital and ease anxiety about the surgery.
